Participant1.) What is the average perceived stress score among the students?
– Add the PSS scores: 28 + 22 + 31 + 18 + 25 + 33 + 20 + 27 + 30 + 29 = 263
Average = 263 ÷ 10 = 26.3
Answer: The average perceived stress score is 26.3.2.) Did males or females sleep more on average?
– Males (ID 2, 5, 7, 9): (6.5 + 6.0 + 7.5 + 5.0) = 25.0 → 25.0 ÷ 4 = 6.25 hours
Females (ID 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10): (5.0 + 4.5 + 7.0 + 4.0 + 5.5 + 5.0) = 31.0 → 31.0 ÷ 6 = 5.17 hours
Answer: Males slept more on average (6.25 hours) than females (5.17 hours).3.) Is there a relationship between stress and sleep? What does the correlation suggest?
– Using the R code cor(data$PSS_Score, data$Sleep_Hours), we’d expect a negative correlation since students with higher
stress scores (like ID 6 with 33) seem to sleep less (only 4 hours), and those with lower stress (like ID 4 with 18)
sleep more (7 hours).Answer: There is most likely a negative relationship between sleep and stress—there are more hours slept with less
stress. The relationship suggests there is less sleep with more perceived stress.
