Participant1. If you are new to using SPSS, how do you feel about the software after viewing the demo?
At first view, the SPSS software does seem a bit complex, especially to a new user like myself. However, I’m open to the thought of trying to understand and engage with the software.
2. If you are new to using R, how do you feel about the software after viewing the demo?
In my opinion, the software interface for R wasn’t too appealing at first glance. However, the R Studio interface shifted my perspective a bit. In terms of the software itself, I am also new to this one. It definitely does seem a bit overwhelming at first, but just as with the SPSS, I believe that with a little bit of practice, I would be able to better understand and navigate the software.
3. Would you consider using R for your next research project?
Honestly, between IBM SPSS and R, I would more consider using SPSS as opposed to R. This is mainly because the user interface is more user friendly and seems a bit easier to navigate as compared to R.

ParticipantYea I get you with the overwhelm. All these new things and concepts can really get to you. One thing I found helpful, but I am not sure if it is true is remembering the 20/80 concept. Where it says generally with a new software tool you only really need to know 20% of its functionality and that will get you 80% of the result you are seeking. Would be interested to apply these statistical concepts to that claim. I have found it to be sort of true, and it helps to remember I don’t have to focus on the whole thing at once.
In answering the questions:
1. I feel more at ease with approaching the software after seeing the demos, but still a bit frazzled about knowing how to apply the tools the get the outputs I want, which will only come with time and practice.
2. I don’t think I’d use SPSS nor explore it further right now as my job requires me to learn R. Moreover based off what I heard about R and its proficiency as a statistical tool makes me heavily lean more towards committing to it.
